IDEA 2007
IDEA 2007 presents a series of events focusing on technology and education in Brisbane from 8-11 October 2007.

Venue
The Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre is located on the corner of Merivale and Glenelg Streets at South Bank, right in the heart of Brisbane.
Purpose
IDEA 2007 events will:
- provide a national, cross-sectoral forum for discussing innovation and technology in education;
- provide a showcase for Australian projects focused on technology in education;
- share intelligence on emerging technologies that will impact education; and
- foster alliances and communities of practice around technologies used by the Australian education community.
Events
IDEA 2007 is a series of events catering to a variety of audiences across a four day period. Participants can select from the following events depending on their area of interest:
IDEA Lab
8 October 2007
IDEA Lab is a series of workshops aimed at education and research infrastructure implementers,
providing technical updates and demonstrations of new technologies.

ICE Workshop
Afternoon of 8 October 2007
The Integrated Content Environment (ICE) is a word processor based system that allows authors to work individually or collaboratively on material for the Web, CD and print. Developed at the University of Southern Queensland as an open source project it is builds on using standards and more sustainable methods of authoring using different word processors across multiple platforms. The current ICE for Research and Scholarship project (ICE-RS) is extending features in ICE to improve the process of conducting and reporting on research, with benefits in improved efficiency, greater usability of research outputs, and publication to research repositories for sustainability. The purpose of the ICE workshop is to provide a hands on experience using the system and to demonstrate the progress made on improving the integration of research tools as part of ICE-RS.

Technology in Education Open Forum
9 - 10 October 2007
This one and a half day open forum will focus on the infrastructure and technologies underpinning
integrated education environments. It is aimed at policy makers and implementers responsible for
education technology and vendors wishing to integrate their services into education infrastructure.
The forum will also showcase Australian finalists for the IMS GLC Learning Impact awards.

Conference Cocktail Reception & Learning Impact Awards
Evening of 9 October 2007
Included for attendees of Technology in Education Open Forum 9-10 October 2007. If you wish to attend the cocktail reception please register for it also; as this required for catering purposes. Costs are included with the Technology in Education Open Forum registration.
Function commencing at 5:30pm, and concludes at 7:00pm.
ADL Update
Lunchtime Session, 10 October 2007
This lunchtime session will provide an update on recent activity and new initiatives underway in the
Advanced Distributed Learning initiative: an international initiative that is working to harness the power of information technologies to support learning, training and job performance.
Registration Cost: This update is open to anyone enrolled in another session on Wednesday (either the Open Technical Forum or the e-Framework). Registration is free to those enrolled in another session.
The e-Framework in Action
Afternoon of 10 October 2007
This half-day workshop will showcase Australian projects that are using the
e-Framework for Education & Research to document and plan service-oriented approaches
to infrastructure deployment. The workshop is aimed at those involved in planning and deploying technical
services for education and research.

RUBRIC Toolkit Launch
Morning of 11 October 2007
The RUBRIC Toolkit is a major deliverable of the DEST-funded RUBRIC Project reporting
on the collective experiences of five RUBRIC Project partners plus three IRUA partners in establishing
institutional repositories. The Toolkit enables other repository managers to build on the experiences
of the Universities involved in its preparation. It includes information on building and managing a
repository, publicity and marketing, Metadata, the Research Quality Framework (RQF), content population
and data issues.

Muradora Presentation - RAMP Project, Macquarie University
Afternoon of 11 October 2007
Research Activityflow and Middleware Priorities (RAMP) is a DEST funded project from the Systemic Infrastructure Initiative. RAMP is developing a flexible authorisation module for repositories (using the XACML open standard) and implementing this as the core of a new, fully open source front-end for Fedora named Muradora.
