Projects
The Link Affiliates team have directly contributed to the following projects:
Regional Universities Building Research Infrastructure Collaboratively (RUBRIC)
e-Framework and Link Affiliates
2005 -
Continued funding* through the RUBRIC and e-Framework Project and additional funding** targeting international collaboration, allows the Link Affiliates team to be actively involved in national and international standards activities, chairing and participating in committees and working groups so as to ensure that Australian education sector requirements are advocated in standards developments. Funding also supports Link Affiliates partnerships activities including the e-Framework, JISC and ADL partnerships.
RUBRIC and e-Framework
2005 - 2008
The RUBRIC Project* was funded to establish and develop institutional repositories in participating universities. With the collaboration of eight Australian and New Zealand Universities the "best" of available advice, experience and outcomes is now available for institutional repository development.
The RUBRIC Project incorporates best practice for institutional repositories that emerged through the MERRI and FRODO Projects.
Link Affiliates team members were involved in the RUBRIC Project, as part of the RUBRIC Board, as advisors on standards processes and sustainable solutions for digital formatting as well as organisers of events showcasing the RUBRIC Toolkit, a major output of the project delivering useful resources and tools for institutional repository managers. The Repositories component of the RUBRIC project was completed at the end of 2007.
The e-Framework for Education and Research is an international initiative of DEEWR, JISC, NZ MoE and SURF collaborating to develop a sustainable, open standards based service oriented technical framework to support the education and research. Australia's contribution to the e-Framework Initiative is funded through the RUBRIC Project.
ANDS Establishment Project - PILIN TRANSITION
January 2008 - June 2008
Link Affiliates assisted the ANDS Establishment Project**** in the transition from the PILIN project to a persistent identifier service within ANDS. ANDS is moving towards an implementation stage in the second half of 2008 and a persistent identifier service is a component of the proposed ANDS Utility Services.
Persistent Identifier Linking Infrastructure (PILIN)
November 2006 - December 2007
The PILIN project*** funded under the ARROW project supported adoption and use of persistent identifiers and services in Australia. The project also laid the foundations for a sustainable, shared identifier management infrastructure (See ANDS Establishment Project).
The Link Affiliates team scoped, led and contributed to the PILIN project, providing management, strategic, business analysis, technical, development and administrative expertise.
Federated Repositories for Education (FRED)
July 2006 - December 2007
The Federated Repositories for Education (FRED) project has been funded in two stages - 2006/07*** and the latter part of 2007***** supported deployment of repository federations in Australian education and training communities. It documented generic service-oriented models for repository federation and produced software toolkits that supported development of repository federations.
The Link Affiliates team scoped, led and ran the FRED project, providing management, strategic, business analysis, technical, development and administrative expertise.
